“Acolytes of Eternal Flame,” the highly anticipated debut album by COFFINWOOD, is set to ignite the metal scene on December 16.
COFFINWOOD, formed in 2017 by Beherit (bass), Kumen (guitar), and Trommeslager (drums) in Warsaw, Poland, expanded their lineup in 2018 with the addition of vocalist Varulv. Their debut EP, “Storm of Steel,” inspired by Ernst Jünger’s novel of the same name, was released in April 2020.
Since September 2022, the band has been performing live with its original lineup, with Beherit taking over vocal duties, supported by Kumen’s backing vocals.
After four years of silence and relentless work in the rehearsal room, the Warsaw-based band is now ready to unleash the result of their efforts: their debut studio album, “Acolytes of Eternal Flame,” set for release on December 16.
Musicians of the band comments their upcoming record as follows:
Kumen said: “The album is a kind of tribute to the tragic events surrounding the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster. The lyrics allude to the events before and after the reactor explosion, describing the chaos intertwined with the elusive melancholy and horror to which those who were thrown into the fight against the growing contamination were subjected.”
Beherit add: “The idea for the album’s theme was a natural follow-up to the direction we had taken earlier. Our lyrics focus on the deadly and destructive effects of suffering on the human psyche. In creating our first EP, we decided on a concept album formula; we wanted to address a topic often overlooked in pop culture, overshadowed by other, later events (World War I, for the record). It was no different when we were looking for inspiration while creating material for a full-length album. The theme of the Chernobyl power plant disaster fits perfectly here. Human suffering, depopulated villages, propaganda.”
Music was recorded, mixed and mastered by Paweł “Janos” Grabowski at JNS Studio (ANTIGAMA, DORMANT ORDEAL, HATE, HOSTIA, RIVERSIDE, SYMBOLICAL). Cover artwork was done by Mieszko Jankowski (MORRATH, NIGHT LORD).
