“The Last Getaway” is the eighth release by DISTRESSED TO MARROW, a band that first appeared on the scene in 2010.
Over the years, they’ve released a total of five CDs and three MCDs, including this new DIY release, which showcases the band’s maturity and dedication, both in their music and production.
What immediately stands out about this MCD is the incredibly high-quality production, far exceeding expectations for a DIY release. Everything is perfectly balanced – guitars, bass, drums, and vocals are seamlessly aligned, giving every element space to shine. The four tracks, with a total runtime of 20 minutes, offer dynamic arrangements, tempo changes, and energy that keeps the listener engaged from start to finish.
From the opening notes, it’s clear that the band excels at building atmosphere, often starting tracks with subtle intros that erupt into riffs and rhythms characteristic of death metal. The dual vocals – guttural growls and piercing screams – add excellent dynamics, while the guitar solos are brief yet effective, avoiding unnecessary complexity.
One track features breakbeat elements at the start, momentarily hinting at hardcore influences. However, the band quickly transitions into more serious death metal territory, balancing slower, almost doom-like riffs with faster sections. The closing track follows a similar pattern – it begins with a burst of energy, includes a faster segment in the middle, and ultimately returns to the familiar dynamics that tie the release together cohesively.
With “The Last Getaway,” DISTRESSED TO MARROW has raised the bar for themselves.
Their clear vision, impressive discography, and outstanding quality make their next full-length a release that could attract even wider attention. If you’re into death metal, support the band via links below:
