ESTINZIONE – Estinzione

estinzione cover

The good thing about this kind of “work” is that the bands themselves send me their music, so I don’t need to hunt down new stuff. 🙂

That’s exactly what happened with these Bolognese (pun intended 🙂 ) guys.

The very first time I played ESTINZIONE, I was immediately drawn in by their raw sound that sounded familiar, or should I say Italian. Debut full-length album, simply named “Estinzione”, perfectly blends powerviolence, grindcore, d-beat, crust and hardcore into something ruthless. From the first track, I could tell they’re all about delivering a concise, direct punch in the stomach.

The album kicks off with “Monade,” a track that wastes no time in setting the tone with its blistering speed and unrelenting aggression, after short intro. Like a wake-up call that shakes your whole body. By the time “Melodi Jugend” rolls around, I’m already hooked. The way they mix speed with heaviness creates this chaoticly controlled sound which you can’t ignore.

But what really stood out to me were the tracks “Maledizione 1,” “Maledizione 2,” and “Maledizione 3.” This trilogy isn’t just about 20-30 seconds noise. No, sir. It’s a journey through dark, poetic lyricism that explores the depths of existential torment.

“Maledizione 1” hits hard with its almost sardonic curse:
“Nell’ occasione di questa Santa ricorrenza
Un augurio di un Solenne sonno eterno
A te e famiglia!”

There’s a dark humor here, wishing eternal sleep upon someone with a twisted sense of irony that feels both sinister and strangely satisfying.

Then comes “Maledizione 2,” which digs even deeper into this philosophical struggle:
“Tu sia per sempre sedotto
Dal prurito di idea perfetta
Dannato, Dannato!
Dannato se lo fai
Dannato se non lo fai”

The repeated “Dannato!” really drives home that sense of inescapable frustration.

By the time I got to “Maledizione 3,” I was fully immersed in this world they’ve created:
“Vivi come fosse l’ultimo
Vivi come per salvarti
Vivi da un personale inferno”

It’s a powerful call to live intensely, as if each moment is your last. It made me think about how we’re all trying to escape our own personal hells, whatever they might be. The trilogy ends on this note. Of course, I Google-translated it from Italian to English. 🙂

Other tracks, like “Il mercato immobiliare” for instance, shows the band’s versatility, meaning they’re not just about speed. “Verrà la guerra” adds a darker, almost sickening atmosphere, while “The KKK took my baby away” is a surprising twist — not a RAMONES cover (who would’ve thought, ha? 🙂 ), but something uniquely their own.

The title track, “Estinzione,” being the last track, sums up everything I loved about this album — it is unfiltered, raw, and direct, with abrasive sound that somehow brings more depth to the brutality. The bass is right up front, driving the music forward with a thick sound that really goes well with the aggressive vocals. There’s no room for fooling around. It’s all about being as straightforward and impactful as possible.

For me, ESTINZIONE’s debut full-length album feels like a knockout punch, which is exactly what I look for: raw, fast and intense. If you’re into music that doesn’t pull any punches, you definitely need to hear this. It’s clear these guys have a bright future ahead. I can’t wait to see where they go from here.
