POSSIBLE DAMAGE are a three-piece powerviolence/grindcore projectile from Germany, featuring members of SVFFER, UNREST, and ATOMKRIEG.
Their self-titled debut dropped late last year via Holy Goat Records and Loner Cvlt Records. 17 tracks, not a second wasted, not a single chance to breathe. Just pure, relentless firepower.
From the opening blast of “Bombhead”, it’s clear that POSSIBLE DAMAGE aren’t the type of band to ease you into their world. There are no atmospheric intros, no gradual build-ups, no subtle transitions. Just sheer madness right from the start. Jan’s blast beats hit mercilessly, while Lisa screams like every breath is her last, delivering lyrics soaked in rage, frustration, and nihilism. Timo occasionally throws in his deeper, almost animalistic growls, adding even more weight to the overall chaos. The absence of a bass guitar doesn’t take away from the intensity – if anything, it amplifies the rawness, with guitars shrieking and drums pounding with unrelenting force. Everything is engineered to hit like a punch to the gut.
But it’s not all just mindless speed. The longest track on the album, “Destroy”, lasts just a second over two minutes but takes a drastic turn. It kicks off at full speed, as if it’s about to blow the speakers apart, but after 30 seconds, the band slams the brakes and shifts into a slow, crushing sludge instrumental. From that moment on, the track transforms into a dragging, distorted wall of sound, stretching the tension to the absolute limit and practically melting the speakers with its sheer weight. Amidst all the chaos, “Destroy” feels like the blacking out after taking one too many hits to the head.
The rest of the album shows no mercy. Occasional punk and hardcore moments only amplify the overall devastation, creating brief yet powerful dynamic shifts that still refuse to offer any real relief. The riffs are razor-sharp, the songs are uncompromising, and the production is polished just enough to keep everything audible without stripping away the necessary filth. The album closes with “Empty Head”, leaving the impression that something new is already brewing— – and that we should be ready for whatever comes next.
POSSIBLE DAMAGE aren’t reinventing the wheel, but what they do, they do damn well. Their grindcore/powerviolence/punk hybrid doesn’t aim to break new ground. It just smashes everything in its path.
This is a band that demands to be experienced live, though preferably with a sound engineer who knows what they’re doing (which sadly wasn’t the case at Krachfest 2024, where the mix fell flat during their set). Because this kind of energy deserves to be felt at full force.
